100 Books in 2009!

The Meigs County - Decatur Friends of the Library will be reading "100 Books in 2009". Members will have the chance to review each book that they read in 2009 and will post a brief review on this site throughout the year. Christmas Open House!

The Meigs County - Decatur Public Library will once again host a Christmas Open House, complete with a visit from Santa Claus. Please join us from 5pm to 7pm on December 2, 2008 to help host this event. Friends members are asked to provide cookies and snacks for this event. Used Book Sale!

The Meigs County - Decatur Friends of the Library will hold their semi-annual Used Book Sale in the meeting room of the library this week. The "Friends Only" preview sale will be held Wednesday afternoon from 2pm to 5pm and is open to all members of the Friends of the Library. Thursday through Saturday, the sale will be open during regular library business hours. This is a great opportunity to find great books at very low prices.

On August 10th, Bill Whitaker reported on the CBS Evening News about public library usage in a slow economy, Good Times At The Library. The segment had more than 6.4 million viewers and an estimated publicity value of more than $2,900,000.

Election of Officers for 2009

We will elect new officers at the meeting scheduled for October 9, 2008. Each officer will serve a term of one year. This will also be a time to plan new events, discuss the results of the online poll and community survey, and choose the direction of our group for the next year. Please plan to attend this important meeting.

Used Book Sale Scheduled for October

The semi-annual Friends of the Library Used Book Sale will be held October 2nd through October 4th, 2008 during regular library hours. There will be a "Members Only Preview Sale" for Friends of the Library members on Wednesday, October 1st from 2:00pm to 5:00pm in the meeting room.

Volunteers are needed for the week prior to the book sale for preparation and set up. Volunteers are also needed to work during the sale. If you are interested in helping with this event, please call Judi Reynolds at the library.

Open House Scheduled for September!

Please join us at the Meigs County - Decatur Public Library on September 11, 2008 for our Friends of the Library Open House and Membership Drive. This will be a great opportunity to introduce the Friends of the Library organization to the community. During the Open House, we will have a large community board posted for suggestions on upcoming projects and events for the Friends group to plan for the upcoming year.

The Open House will be held from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. Refreshments will be provided by the Library Board of Trustees.
